AW23: The Inspiration Behind the Collection.

08.09.2023 3 min read

Having made and finished its garments in the UK for over 225 years, the influences of the British countryside and homegrown fibres are intrinsically interwoven through Peregrine’s DNA.

While its factory is located in Manchester, the British heritage brand looks to its adopted home city of Bristol for AW23 - it is from this culturally vibrant city in the South West from which founder and Creative Director Tom Glover and his design team draw their inspiration for colour and texture.

Bristol’s urban environment and close proximity to nature demand a wardrobe that is slick enough to wear ‘about town’ yet versatile enough to look at ease in neighbouring countryside.

Easy to wear, enduring, understated style - pieces from the Peregrine collection are destined to earn the status of old friends.

At the cornerstone of the Peregrine collection are its long standing British wool Hudson Aran jumpers and waffle crew styles. Having announced their commitment to sourcing 100% of their British wool from regeneratively farmed flocks for this capsule by 2027 in the Autumn of 2022, the brand is now entering its second year of the transition. The pieces are now made of 33% regeneratively sourced wool, while the remaining volume is sourced through a long-standing ethical British Wool supply chain that ensures farmers get paid fairly for their fleeces.

Autumn Winter’s palette of failsafe neutrals traverses navy, oatmeal, soft winter whites, light and dark greys and is enlivened by muted brights such as a deep terracotta ‘Orange’ and peacock blue ‘Teal’ and a burnt ochre named ‘Honey’.

As well as the knitwear Peregrine is best loved for, the brand also excels at beautifully constructed outerwear. Hero pieces to celebrate for AW23 include; the hip length Wool Lined Teddy Coat, a jacket inspired by vintage military ‘Deck’ styles. Available in mustard and navy it is crafted from Antique waxed cotton. The Teddy coat is the new addition to the waxed jacket range,  already existing of Bexley, Clifton and Redland. Each offering a different take on the ubiquitous British waxed cotton jacket, the perfect staple for the seasonal transitions. Made using British Millerain’s antique wax fabric, they’re hard wearing, lightweight and waterproof. Elsewhere capsules evolved for AW23 include;

Blocks & Stripes

Injections of geometric colour blocks and stripes are applied to Peregrine’s mid-weight washed Merino wool crew styles Dennis, Collins and Buxton providing a playful take on a traditionally made style. The result; uniquely soft and fluffy pieces that feel like a hug when slipped on.

Flannel Shirting

A good flannel shirt is an anchor for many men’s winter wardrobes and the range from Peregrine does not disappoint. Expect  contemporary takes on the humble check, providing enough freshness to give your fits a seasonal boost. For the boldest combinations choose Farley; Goadby, Workshop and Spratton checks are the most unusual in formation.

Overshirting

Peregrine’s Blake Overshirt is a true wardrobe workhorse - in tactile corduroy or a subtly elevated dogtooth check - it is a perfect transition piece while pulling together an outfit to make it feel ‘right now’.
